Neil Patrick Harris Gays It Up with Howard Stern
How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris was interviewed by Howard Stern on his Sirius Radio show and was extremely forthcoming about liking boys. Harris confirmed his gay persuasion last year after Perez Hilton unleashed an outing salvo on him not seen since—T.R. Knight?
Harris told Stern he's known he was homosexual since age 13, despite bedding "12 to 15" women before accepting the hardening reality. His first gay experience was with a fellow cast member of Rent. This is shocking because Rent is possibly the straightest musical production ever. It's right up there with Bye Bye, Birdie.
The former child star of Doogie Howser, M.D. also detailed his personal life with longtime boyfriend, actor David Burtka. Harris says he and Burtka are in a monogamous relationship, and that he doesn't believe in open ones.
"I don't know that once you're gay you get this card that says that if things aren't going great you can go f--k other guys," he told Stern.
Well, that's not very gay of him.
As the Perez crusade to out him persisted, Harriss' publicist issued a statement that Harris was "not of that persuasion," and Hilton asked readers to send in any stories or photographic proof that Harris indeed played for the blue team. (Wouldn't a still from his performance in Rent have sufficed?) Harris came clean the day after his publicist's denial.
When Stern asked Harris if he had ever confronted the Rubenesque gossip czarina about the numerous attempts to out him, Harris played it cagey.
"Well, it's a tricky subject—Perez is from a generation that feels like [being out] is a nonissue. It's offensive to him when people don't declare that, because it's always been a part of who he is.
You know that Harris and the rest of his gym-bunny, men-about-town, actor-queen patrol drive by Perez when they see him out in front of Pink's wielding two chili dogs with the works and yell "Fat Ass!" out the window.
Harris also confessed that his favorite thing about being in a relationship with another man is being able to trade off who's on top and who's on bottom. It's like the coin flip at the beginning of the Super Bowl in that bedroom!
