Natalie Portman, Sean Penn Display Cannes-Do Spirit
You have to love the Cannes Film Festival. It's the one time of year when celebrities can escape their dismal lives, visit an exotic locale and congratulate each other on a job well done.
Though the 61st annual festival just began today, stars are already flocking in for their well-deserved respite. Sean Penn, who'll be serving as the president of this year's jury and no doubt saying something controversial (oh, that scamp!), was on hand to launch the festivities, along with an always-lovely and ever-youthful Natalie Portman, who's also serving jury duty.
Other early arrivals included Julianne Moore and Gael Garcia Bernal, who are starring in Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles' much-buzzed-about apocalyptic thriller and festival-opener Blindness.
In addition to Blindness, other anticipated flicks include Barry Levinson's What Just Happened?, starring Robert DeNiro and Bruce Willis, the Woody Allen flick Vicky Cristina Barcelona—the lesbian kiss between Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz has been arousing a lot of, uh, interest—and, of course, the hotly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which has its Cannes premiere on May 18.
One of the biggest celebs—on a variety of levels—to attend this year's fete is Angelina Jolie, who not only has two films premiering this year (the animated Kung Fu Panda and the Clint Eastwood-helmed period thriller Changeling) but two buns in the oven. During an interview to promote Kung Fu Panda, her co-star, Jack Black, let slip that the ginormous-bellied Jolie is carrying twins.
A double dose of Jolie-style hotness is on the way? Now that's a real cause for celebration.
