Wesley Snipes Gets a Pass…for Now

This would have been Wesley Snipes’ last Memorial Day weekend as a free man. The convicted tax evader was due to turn himself in on June 3 to begin serving his three-year federal prison sentence…and then someone slipped him a hall pass.

Despite being “dubious” of the validity of Snipes’ appeal issues, a judge in Ocala, Florida, set a $5 million bond so the actor could remain free until the appellate court had heard his case, stating that he does not pose a flight risk or a danger to himself or others.

E! Online reports that his attorneys have been arguing Snipes is on a crusade to right his case civilly and avoid such severe criminal penalties, even showing up with checks totaling $5 million for IRS agents. Cha-ching!

Alas, the way the wheels of justice turn, the judge noted Snipes’ sentence could have actually run its course by the time his case is heard.

For an unlucky dude, Snipes just hit the jackpot. Maybe the guy should play the lottery.
