Morning Buzz: Oprah Sued

Oprah Winfrey is the defendant in a defamation lawsuit filed by the former headmistress of her African school. People reports that Nomvuyo Mzamane, who ran Oprah’s South African Leadership Academy for Girls, has filed the suit alleging Winfrey launched a defamation campaign against her after a molestation scandal last year. Her attorney says that Winfrey publicly implied that Mzamane “knew of alleged physical and sexual abuse at the academy and participated in a cover-up of the alleged abuse.”

Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor has suffered an injury which may make her future as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars uncertain, according to E!. In a statement, ABC producers said that May-Treanor suffered an injury during rehearsal last Friday which required “immediate medical attention” but she “did not break an ankle.” Doctors will reportedly evaluate her condition and determine if she’s ok to dance again.

TMZ reports that Dancing with the Stars former champion Helio Castroneves wept in court as he pled not guilty to tax evasion charges on Friday. Castroneves followed up his plea by being allowed to race in the American Le Mans Series Petit Le Mans auto race in Atlanta the next day, which he won.

Us reports that American Idol season six contestant LaKisha Jones wed financial advisor Larry Davis on Sunday in Beverly Hills. Former American Idol-ers Sanjaya Malakar, Melinda Doolittle, and Gina Glocksen were in attendance.

People reports that Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen has gotten engaged to his publicist, Janie Liszewski. Van Halen was formerly married to actress Valerie Bertinelli, and they have a son together – Wolfgang, 17.
