Russell Brand Shoves Foot in Mouth On-Air

Fresh off the heels of his controversial MTV Video Music Awards hosting gig (not to mention his naughty comments about Helen Mirren), Russell Brand is in hot water again.

Brand—snapped here by Bauer Griffin while leaving his London home—and fellow Brit Jonathan Ross have a show on the U.K.’s BBC Radio 2. The Daily Telegraph reports that they were set to telephone interview 78-year-old Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.

But Sachs never picked up for the exchange.

Brand and Ross proceeded to leave scandalous messages on Sachs’ voicemail, while still on air. In one, Russell Brand claimed he had slept with the actor’s granddaughter, Georgina Baillie.

After 546 listener complaints, Brand did an on-air apology.

“I’d like to apologize for these terrible attacks, Andrew Sachs,” Brand sings in the video below. “I’d like to show contrition to the max, Andrew Sachs!”

Andrew Sachs is not quite over the incident: “People ask me if I’m angry—well, yes, but not half as angry as Georgina…”

Chin up, Russell; at least you didn’t tick off an entire country.
