Celebrities and celebrity fashionistas gathered last night for the the fifth anniversary of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund at Skylight Studios in NYC.

Newly-inducted U.S. messenger of peace Charlize Theron brought as her date the outrageously dressed fashion artiste John Galliano, who was the night's keynote speaker.

Galliano brought the crowd to his feet when, during his keynote speech, he noted "if you want easy, don't pick fashion," according to Style.com.

The gala is held annually for the fund which is founded by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue. A newbie fashion designer is selected each year for a grant that goes toward their careers and fashion lines.

Also on the red carpet were supermodel Agyness Deyn, Gossip Girl actors/real-life couple Penn Badgely and Blake Lively, Anna Wintour, tennis champion Maria Sharapova, model Doutzen Kroes, Wintour's daughter Bee Schaffer, actress Jennifer Morrison, and Ralph Lauren heir David Lauren and his girlfriend, President George W. Bush's niece Lauren.

Designer Alexander Wang was chosen as the winner this year and awarded $200,000 and a year of mentoring.
