‘Twilight’ Makes a Killing at the Box Office
Summit Entertainment’s Twilight opened this past weekend and shattered box office expectations with a whopping $70.6 million take. The film’s production budget was $37 million.
Robert Pattinson, 22, pictured here arriving at New York City’s JFK airport on Sunday, can expect the grueling promotional trail to stretch on and on.
Box Office Mojo notes that Twilight boasted the fourth best November opening ever, coming in behind three of the Harry Potter films.
Twilight has also set a record as the highest-grossing debut weekend for a female-directed film. Catherine Hardwicke, 53, who lensed the vampire flick, has now beat Mimi Leder’s previous record of an initial $41.2 million intake for 1998’s Deep Impact.
Needless to say, Summit officially announced on Friday that New Moon, the first follow-up to Twilight, will be going into production shortly.
