Boy George Found Guilty of S&M Crime
Boy George is facing real imprisonment because of false imprisonment.
The 47-year-old former Culture Club singer (born George O’Dowd) has been found guilty of imprisoning male escort Audun Carlsen, 29, in O’Dowd’s East London apartment, the BBC reports.
During the trial, the court heard testimony that O’Dowd had handcuffed Carlsen to his bed on April 28, 2007.
O’Dowd claimed that Carlsen had stolen photos off a laptop computer, taken three months prior when the pair first met. The singer said he was merely detaining Carlsen while he investigated the theft.
Carlsen countered that O’Dowd’s story was a cover, claiming that O’Dowd merely wanted to punish him for not having sex during their initial encounter.
“I think he couldn’t handle the refusal—me not having sex with him,” Carlsen testified.
The two met on social-networking site Gaydar.
O’Dowd will be sentenced on January 16, 2009. He has already been warned by Judge David Radford that he will likely be doing jail time.
