O.J. Simpson Sentenced
No slow-rolling Ford Bronco can help Orenthal “O.J.” Simpson this time.
CNN reports that Simpson, 61, has been sentenced to at least 15 years by Las Vegas judge Jackie Glass for 12 counts of armed robbery and kidnapping.
Simpson was convicted of the charges, which stemmed from a 2007 dispute over sports memoribilia, this October.
Glass castigated the former football star, who did not testify during his trial, prior to sentencing him.
“Earlier in this case, at a bail hearing, I said to Mr. Simpson I didn’t know if he was arrogant, ignorant or both,” Glass noted from the bench. Glass also stressed that the sentencing was not “payback for anything else,” referring to Simpson’s aquittal on murder charges of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Brown 13 years go.
“Everything in this case was on tape,” Glass added. “The evidence in this case was overwhelming.”
Simpson offered words of contrition during the sentencing, claiming, “I didn’t want to steal anything from anybody. I just wanted my personal things. I was stupid. I’m sorry. I didn’t know I was doing anything illegal.”
