Ricky Martin: Livin' La Vida Papa
Ricky Martin doesn't have a lot of time for the same old song and dance these days.
The 36-year-old Puerto Rican heartthrob became a father to twins via a surrogate mother in August, and he's raising the boys—Matteo and Valentino—all by his lonesome, without even the help of a nanny.
The new dad did, however, take time out to talk to People magazine about his sons and how fatherhood has altered his life.
Speaking from his home in Puerto Rico, Martin declared, "Being a father feels amazing. This has been the most spiritual moment in my life."
The singer—who's taking a year off from show business to take care of the tots—says that he's extremely hands-on with his daddy duties, admitting, "I'm the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep. For any parent, the first couple of months tend to get a little bit intense."
Though the twins are only four months old, Martin says that they're already displaying distinct personalities. "Valentino loves to sleep. I call him 'Mr. Peace and Love' because he's so chill and serene," the former Menudo member reveals. "Matteo is more alert and active. He was up at 3 a.m. the other night and just hanging!"
So how does Pa Martin while away the time with the boys when he's not changing diapers? "I love to read books to my sons and tell them stories. I play music for them so they develop their own personalities. I want to give them information and raise them with honesty and love, and give them self-esteem and a lot of acceptance."
The Ricky Martin People interview hits newsstands on Friday.
