Courteney Cox Isn't Getting Divorced
Courteney Cox wants the world to know that she's never going to leave her husband of nine years, David Arquette.
Of course, no one has suggested that the actors, 44 and 37 respectively, were heading for divorce court, but the former Friends star wants to reassure everyone anyway. She's cool like that.
"I get shocked by people getting divorced all the time, that’s why I choose to work on it. Therapy helps us," Cox tells British newspaper the Mail. "It's so easy to grow apart; marriage takes work. I suppose you can work it out by talking to each other—I would just prefer to have a referee, it reminds us why we're together."
The two married in June 1999 and have a four-year-old daughter, Coco Riley Arquette. As a child of divorce, Cox is determined not to follow in her parents' footsteps.
"Before my dad died, he said one of his big regrets was that he hadn't worked on their marriage enough," the actress, who's set to star in the upcoming ABC sitcom Cougar Town, reveals. "I don't know what the future's going to hold, but divorce isn't really an option."
So how does Hollywood's dominant power couple maintain the Rock of Gibraltar-degree of stability in their marriage? The company of friends, apparently. Cox says that, on a typical Sunday at their house, "people over to our house. David does the barbecuing, and we have a fantastic chef, Patrice, who makes great salads, vegetables and fish. Sunday is my favorite time because it's really about friends."
There is one tiny bit of friction in the Cox-Arquettes' real-life Shangri-La, however. The two disagree on how much they should spoil their daughter on Christmas.
"Christmas is insane in our house," the tireless thespian admits. "I say: 'Let’s buy Coco one good toy,' but he wants to buy her 900 presents. Our compromise lands closer to David."
Unity through gift-giving; what an inspirational message for the rest of the world!!!!!!
