The Philippines Will Get a Whole New ‘Twilight’
Move over Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart; there’s a new Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in town!
No, there aren’t more cast shake-ups going on with the breakout-hit Twilight series. Rather, the teen vampire novel has been adapted for a television movie to be aired in the Philippines, separate from the box-office smash currently in movie theaters around the globe.
The website Yehey reports that Filipino actors Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao, both 19, will star as Edward and Bella in the locally-televised version, to be broadcast on ABS-CBN.
The network and co-producer Ignite Media purchased the rights to Twilight for more than $1 million, with taping to begin in February.
With that kind of cash to throw around, here’s hoping the Filipino adaptation ends up standing on its own against other hits to come out of the country—such as last year’s viral prison-yard phenomenon, “Thriller”:

I just read the whole thing and come on, YOU ARE CRAZY! The tv station should have their originality and write their own script. I believe that what ABS-CBN is completely wrong about remaking this film. I am flip and a tfc addict which is why i respected ABS-CBN, but now that they decided to do this remake I think they’re just doing this for money which is bullsh*t! Because they know that Twilight has a huge fan base . I still respect ABS-CBN because they’re a great company but I don’t respect them the same way anymore. The Twilight series is my little piece of heaven and what they are about to do to it is a big huge piece of hell! I know all of you are furious but PLEASE DON’T BLAME THESE ACTORS! Plus, The Location doesn’t fit the story. There is no cold place in the Philippines. It’s pretty warm there & The sun shines everyday. It’ll be impossible for ‘Edward’ to go to school, right?

I’m Filipino and I think this is ridiculous. No one and I mean NO ONE could replace the acting ability of Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen. He’s made for the character…not to mention FINE AS HELL! But that’s not the issue. Us Filipinos get a bad rap for copying everything, and with this remake…we’re just egging them on. Not to mention, how much we’re betraying the Twilight book fanbase. Ugh…this is stupid. I suggest that ABS-CBN get their own ideas and stop ripping off other people’s. If Stephanie Meyers ever sees this, I would like to extend an apology for the stupidity of this company.
