‘Gossip Girl’ Spins Out on the Sunset Strip

Predictions of a Gossip Girl spin-off have been almost as intense this past season as speculation about Serena van der Woodsen’s (Blake Lively) shadowy past coming back to haunt her.

Back in June 2008, precocious little sister Taylor Momsen, 15, was rumored to have been in line for her own program.  A Momsen-flaunting series would assumedly target a younger audience than the fresh adults/older teens currently tuning in for weekly updates from the Upper East Side hellions. But those rumors were shot down right around the time Momsen began acting her age, times two.

But now the inevitable seems to have arrived: Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have leaked plans for an off shoot to Yahoo news. The new show will look back to the 1980s, when Blake’s mom (make that Serena’s mom), Lily van der Woodsen (played by Kelly Rutherford, 40), goes through her rock ‘n’ roll adolescent rebellion on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip.

Lily will p-o her parents, go to live with her white trashy sister in the Valley and get impregnated by a shaggy rocker who will grow up to be Rufus Humphrey, the father to Lily’s secret love child, an illegitimate spawn who haunts Lily as she tries to set an example for her at-risk (though highly privileged) daughter Serena (back to Blake Lively)!

If that’s not enough drama, check into the real-life divorce squabbles between pregnant Kelly Rutherford and her estranged husband, millionaire financier Daniel Giersch.
