John Travolta Victim of an Extortion Plot

John Travolta’s year is off to a bad start.

The National Enquirer reports that police in the Bahamas are investigating extortion demands made after his 16-year-old son Jett suffered a fatal seizure there earlier this month.

Details of the plot have yet to be released, but police are currently investigating two possible co-conspirators, one of whom is “believed to be a politician.”

Mike Ossi and Howard Butler, attorneys for the 54-year-old actor, issued a statement from Jacksonville, Florida, after returning from the Bahamas: “Regrettably in a time of such terrible grief there are often a few individuals who attempt to make false claims in hopes of making millions of dollars…We will never let that happen.”

The two attorneys added that they have “the utmost confidence in the Bahamian police and government” in conducting the investigation.

Interestingly, this is the second time in recent months that Travolta has been targeted by extortionists. In October, production of his upcoming action-thriller From Paris With Love had to be halted temporarily when the film’s producers refused to pay protection money to a local gang.  Ten stunt cars were subsequently torched.
