The Oscar Nominations For 2009!

The Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have now been nominated for almost every major cinematic awards this year, according to Us.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button received the most nominations this year with 13 in total.

Angelina was nominated for Best Actress for her role as a mother desperate to find her lost child in Changeling, and her companion Brad was given the nod for his portrayal as a man aging backwards in Benjamin Button.

Comeback of the year belongs to Mickey Rourke, who is nominated for Best Actor for his role as a aging professional wrestler in The Wrestler.

Sleeper hit Slumdog Millioniare, a quirky adventure/romance set against the backdrop of an Indian gameshow, was nominated for Best Director and Best Picture.

Frost/Nixon is the other dark horse in the running. Ron Howard’s film adaption of the historic interviews gained Frank Langella a Best Actor nomination for his role as President Richard Nixon, veteran director Ron Howard a nomination for Best Director, and a Best Picture nomination.

Another multiple nominee was Gus Van Sant’s Milk, the biopic of gay politician Harvey Milk. Sean Penn was nominated for Best Actor, Van Sant for Best Director, and the film also earned a Best Picture nomination.

As expected, the late Heath Ledger was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight Returns.

Most notably absent from most of the nominations is Revolutionary Road. The Kate Winslet/Leonardo DiCaprio film earned rave reviews for its intense story of a suburban couple and the 50s and Winslet was expected to receive a nom for her performance.

Instead, she was nominated for Best Actress for The Reader.
