Brad Pitt: Mickey Rourke and Sean Penn Are ‘Gods’

When this year’s Oscar nominations were announced, Brad Pitt was in Paris promoting his film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button…and flashing his underwear.

Pitt, 45, has some stiff competition in the Best Actor category—Richard Jenkins, Frank Langella, Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke.  He’s placed at least two of his nominees on somewhat of a high pedestal.

“When I started out, my Gods, so to speak, were Gary Oldman, Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke, and so it’s a real honour for me to be sitting at the same table and be mentioned in the same way with these fine actors,” Brad said on England’s GMTV morning show, as reported by ITN.

“And since then Richard Jenkins has become a great friend and someone I admire,” the actor continued. “So it’s a fickle business but it’s nice when your number comes up.”

Mickey Rourke, 52, is nominated for his role in the gritty drama The Wrestler. He won a Golden Globe for his performance earlier this month.

Sean Penn, 47, is up for portraying assassinated San Francisco city supervisor Harvey Milk in Gus Van Sant’s Milk.

Pitt’s Benjamin Button leads the Oscar nominations with a total of 13.
