Orlando Bloom Seeks Shade On ‘Sympathy’

The elements are Orlando Bloom’s enemy on the set of his next film Sympathy for Delicious, which is filming in Los Angeles this week.

But that massive umbrella should successfully deter any light or moisture from getting to accident survivor Bloom, 31.

Sympathy for Delicious is the story of a DJ who is rendered paraplegic in an accident and discovers he has the power to heal everyone but himself. He then uses his gift to live a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, according to Empire Online.

Orlando plays the “tough singer” of a rock band, with Laura Linney portraying his manager.

The production has a storied history and the film isn’t even in the can yet.

The screenplay is by actor/screenwriter Christopher Thornton, 41, who stars as the lead character and who is himself paraplegic. Thornton shattered his vertebrae in rock-climbing accident at age 25, according to IMDB.

It is also the directing debut of actor Mark Ruffalo, 41.

Production was supposed to being in December but was halted due to the shooting death of Ruffalo’s brother Scott.

Scott Ruffalo, a 39-year-old hairdresser, was found dead in his Beverly Hills apartment on Dec 1.

The death has officially been ruled a homicide, although it was initially thought to be a case of Russian roulette gone wrong.

Due to Sympathy’s schedule change, Orlando Bloom had to take over for James Franco in his role.

If the story on the screen is half as interesting as the one behind the scenes, it should be a great movie.
