Etta James Was Joking About Beyonce, Obama

Legendary singer Etta James, 71, now says that her recent outburst about Beyonce singing "her" song "At Last" at President Barack Obama's inauguration was a joke. Mostly.

"I didn't really mean anything," James told the New York Daily News. "Even as a little child, I've always had that comedian kind of attitude. ... That's probably what went into it."

However, when asked if she thought she could sing her signature tune better than Beyonce, she responded in the affirmative.

"I think so. That's a shame to say that," James said.

She also acknowledged that she was "feeling left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around."

At a recent Seattle concert, James acknowledged that she couldn't "stand" Beyonce, 27, and stated that she was going to "whip" her "ass."

"Nobody was getting mad at me in Seattle," she said. "They were all laughing, and it was funny." James said the jokes were not "from a vicious place."

As for her remark about our president's big ears?

"He's got other stuff [to worry about] besides Etta James."

It's still called "jealousy". She couldn't hide it. Good job trying to cover it. That's called "publicity". Spelling hasn't changed, neither has the people. Glad Etta picked up her face.

When blacks fight like this after just getting your black president it makes pro white types like me very happy. Keep on fighting in public like this we are going to use this to make sure that in the next four years you guys go back into slavery. It proves you dont deserve your freedom much less a black in the white house. Fight fight fight on!!!!Yeah!!!!

Sharon, I think Beyounce understand what Etta was saying and did not take it personal. If you are an African American you should understand what an older African American mean by that remark. It's more like a Great Grandmother idol treat. Again, it was all in fun you did not hear any anger or viciousness in her voice. I like Beyounce but what do you think people will be saying about Beyounce 30 to 40 years from now? How do you think Beyounce would respond to the music she made famous when the shoe is on the other foot and she is left out?

I don't know why people are trying to make a big deal out of her statement. I think she have the right to voice her opinion and with all due respect she should have been singing it that night since she was the one who made the song famous. Also, when you listen to the content she said it in it was all in fun. People get over it, we have more things to worry about then what someone said about Beyounce who is rich. Our worries should be about the economy and how we can work together to make things better for people who’s losing their homes and jobs.
