Chris Brown’s Stepfather: “Don’t Make Me the Scapegoat!”

Could domestic abuse run in Chris Brown’s family? His stepfather Donnelle Hawkins says no, despite accusations the singer has brought against him in the past.

“I never once raised my hand to his mother,” Donnelle tells OK! Magazine. “It just never happened.”

So why the allegations?

“I believe that Chris is making these allegations because it is a way of not accepting responsibility of his own actions. Somebody has to be at fault, the scapegoat, and who else but me?” Donnelle claims. “He blames me for taking his mom away from his dad, even though it didn’t happen like that. Whatever issues he has, whether he thinks they come from me or not, he needs to get help for, get counseling,” Hawkins said.

Hawkins’ profession of innocence might be harmed by the fact that he’s currently blind from accidentally shooting himself in the eyes during an argument with Brown’s mother.

In 2007, Brown alleged that he had watched his mother Joyce Brown Hawkins get beaten by her husband Donnelle when he was a child.

“He used to hit my mom…He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself,” Chris said. “I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day…’ I hate him to this day.”

Brown, 19, is currently under investigation for an incident that occurred over the weekend in which he is alleged to have beaten and choked his girlfriend Rihanna, 20, into unconsciousness.

A recent report suggests that Rihanna may have been experiencing physical abuse at the hands of Brown since December of last year.
