James Franco: Udderly Delighted at Hasty Pudding Awards

James Franco is moooving up in this world.

The 30-year-old Milk star was crowned Man of the Year by Harvard-based drama group Hasty Pudding Theatricals in Cambridge, Massachusetts, yesterday, in a ceremony that included a spoof bar mitzvah, a “gay” cow, and no small amount of cross-dressing.

Brainiac hunk Franco—who’s currently taking courses at both NYU and Columbia University—was given a fake bag of marijuana in honor of his role in stoner comedy Pineapple Express before undergoing the mock bar mitzvah, which included a “Rabbi Spider Man” and “Yentl Express” dancers who performed “Hava Nagila” in drag, the Associated Press reports.

“Yeah, I guess I wasn’t a man until tonight,” Franco, whose mother is Jewish but who wasn’t raised in her faith, joked.

But newly recognized manliness aside, Franco—who’s slated to portray beat pot Allen Ginsberg in an upcoming biopic—wasn’t afraid to play fast and loose with gender roles during yesterday’s ceremony.

Before being granted his Man of the Year Award, Franco donned a blond wig, sparkling gold bra and purple high-heeled shoes.

“I couldn’t ask for anything more. I’ve made it,” Franco said while accepting the award.

Each year the Hasty Pudding troupe bestows its awards to performers who have made a lasting contribution to the field of entertainment. Actress Renee Zellweger was deemed Woman of the Year by the group last week.
