Reese Witherspoon: An 'Elle' of a Gal
Reese Witherspoon opens up on a variety of topics in the April issue of Elle magazine— especially her divorce from actor and father of her two children Ryan Phillippe.
Witherspoon and Phillippe split in 2006 after rumors of his infidelity came to light, and she describes the experience as "very humiliating and very isolating."
"But, by the way, if it's not painful, maybe it wasn't the right decision to marry to begin with. Those are the appropriate emotions. And I still have moments where I'm like, 'Nothing is ever gonna make sense again.'"
Witherspoon got over her pain and isolation with the help of boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal.
"He's fabulous. He really is a fantastic guy," she says about the Prince of Persia actor, whom she's reportedly dated since late 2007.
Reese, who made it very public that she had issues with Four Christmases co-star Vince Vaughn while filming the holiday comedy, also tries to dispel the notion that she's controlling in her professional life.
"I don't think I'm a control freak. I think I'm just fearful. I operate from a lot of fear, like, of things being lost or forgotten or neglected," Witherspoon reveals. "It's so funny to me that somehow I've been portrayed as a very, like, closed-off or uptight person. I'm very open."
That openness could come from her consumption of vino. Witherspoon, unlike the rest of Hollywood, says that's not obsessed about keeping in shape.
"I’m made of cookies after the holidays. Everything inside me is made of sugar and flour and a little red wine–a lot of red wine.”
