Kanye West Surprises South by Southwest Audience
Kanye West's track record at music festivals is checkered at best, but the 808s & Heartbreak rapper satisfied fans at South by Southwest on Saturday with an unannounced, festival-closing set, according to Associated Press.
The 31-year-old West performed a lengthy set on the last night for Austin's annual music blowout, taking to the stage during a party sponsored by Fader Magazine and Levi's.
West was joined by artists from his G.O.O.D. Music label (the name stands for "Getting Out Our Dreams"), including rappers Consequence and Kid Cudi. Toward the end of the set, West was joined by fellow rapper Common and R&B big-wig Erykah Badu.
West, who's known for his bouts of irritability, was clearly in good spirits during the performance. Noting that Fader was one of the first publications to give him prominent press exposure, the rapper performed several "old school joints" from his 2004 debut, College Dropout.
"It feels so good to rock for you tonight," West proclaimed.
Hopefully, with his elevated mood, West managed to get out of Austin without scuffling with anybody at the airport.
