Zac Efron Won't Get 'Footloose'
Zac Efron has dropped out of the proposed remake of the classic 80s film Footloose.
Does this mean the project is dead and that a Kevin Bacon classic won't be desecrated?
Despite losing their teen heartthrob, the show must go on. EW reports that Paramount has released a statement confirming that the project is still a go.
"Footloose is a project we've longed to see re-booted for a new generation. While Zac is no longer attached, we remain excited and committed to the collective brain trust of Kenny Ortega, Neil Meron and Craig Zaden, who will reinvigorate the franchise. Their fresh take on the film will undoubtedly be filled with the same kind of breakout performances that we've come to expect from them."
Efron had been attached to the project for a year and a half, and sources say that he was advised that starring in another musical might typecast him and prevent him from getting future non-perky musical roles.
The project could put on hold if a bankable star of Efron's magnitude isn't cast.
Hmm, better start combing Disney studios now, guys.
