Madonna Seeking a Little Mercy
Madonna doesn't care what the government of Malawi says—she's going ahead with plans to adopt another one of their kids anyway.
The New York Daily News reports that the Material Mom, 50, has filed adoption papers in an effort to add three-year-old Malawian girl Mercy James to her ever-increasing brood.
This, despite the fact that Malawian officials are protesting the adoption on moral grounds.
Citing Madonna's recent divorce from ex-husband Guy Ritchie and her current relationship with 22-year-old Brazilian model Jesus Luz, authorities from Malawi have expressed concern about releasing Mercy into a "broken home."
According to Simon Chisale, Malawi's head social welfare officer, "We do not only look at the material issues, but also the moral standing of prospective adoptive parents, because we do not want our children's morals to be corrupted."
Madonna, accused of corrupting children's morals? Shocking!
The Hard Candy singer's adoption case may be heard in a Malawi court as soon as Monday.
If Madonna should win her case, Mercy would be the second Malawian child that she's taken under her wing. She officially adopted David Banda last year.
