Russell Crowe Gets Medieval On Us

Russell Crowe Gets Medieval On Us-photo

The first photo of Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott's upcoming Robin Hood movie has been released, and if you don't like it he just might shoot you with that arrow!

The new look is a dramatic departure from past depictions of the fabled wealth re-distributor. For one thing, the 45-year-old actor sports a Caesar haircut instead of the traditional longer locks.

Crowe has dropped more than some hair for the part. Earlier reports indicated that he was struggling to drop the weight that he'd gained for Body of Lies, and that Sienna Miller had been ousted from the role of Maid Marion because her slim physique accentuated Crowe's added bulk.

But from the looks of things, Crowe managed to trim down in time for shooting.

Of course, it helps that Crowe doesn't have to squeeze himself into a pair of tights.

"He doesn't have the old Robin Hood tights," the movie's producer, Brian Grazer, tells USA Today. "He's got armor. He's very medieval. He looks, if anything, more like he did in Gladiator than anything we're used to seeing with Robin Hood."

Readers, have your say in the comments section: Do you think Russell Crowe will be able to pull off the role of Robin Hood?

I have heard Ridley Scott comment that Russell Crowe lends such a strong presence in the making a film, with that certain intensity and perfectionism, that he needs top performers around him. Look at the high caliber of the present cast and why worry about Sienna? No offense, but she's not in the same league. This is looking like a great project!

Russell will pull off any role he puts his mind to, Miller was never going to play Maid Marion, Miller would never pull off the virginal Maid Marion, is not that good of an actress. Cate is perfect for the role and they have a lot of respect for each other.

There's no doubt about Crowe pulling off ANY role, once he puts his mind to it. The man's the greatest actor out there right now!
