Betsy Waldman / May 4, 2009

MTV has just announced the nominees for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, and, not surprisingly, Twilight leads the pack.

The Vampire romance flick has seven nominations, including Best Movie, Breakthrough Performance Male (Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner), Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart), and Best Kiss (Stewart and Pattinson).

Slumdog Millionare also appears on the ballot six times, including Best Movie, Breakthrough Performance Female (Freida Pinto) and Breakthrough Performance Male (Dev Patel).

A race we’re excited to see is Breakthrough Performance Female, which is a battle between Stewart, Pinto, Ashley Tisdale (HSM 3), Vanessa Hudgens (HSM 3), and Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana: The Movie). You go girls!

This is the first year that the fans had the chance to nominate their picks for the popular awards show, which will air May 31. This year’s show will be hosted by SNL comedian Andy Samberg at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
