Paula Abdul: I'm Not a Pill Popper!

Paula Abdul: I'm Not a Pill Popper!-photo

Earlier this week, we reported on Paula Abdul's seeming confession to Ladies Home Journal that she was, not surprisingly, once addicted to painkillers and struggled to keep her secret "hush-hush" from the media.

However, Paula is now saying that the entire story is false!

In a statement, the American Idol judge said, "I want to make it perfectly clear to everyone that I have never been addicted to or abused drugs in my life. I have never been drunk. I have never entered a rehab or detox treatment center."

Abdul added that the rehab facility mentioned in the magazine article is actually a resort, where she spent 3 days, not the alleged 30 days. "I spent time hiking, bicycling, doing yoga and enjoying the spa. As anyone who has visited the La Costa Resort knows, it is a luxury hotel, not a rehab facility."

So, what did the women at Ladies Home Journal have to say in response? "We stand by our reporting and are happy that Paula decided to share her journey with us."

Hmm...something's fishy about this one. Leave your thoughts in the comments!

She was PHYSICALLY DEPENDENT on the medication, which she needed. Then she had surgery and wanted to get off of it, so she cut off the medication that she had been taking for years. She went through withdrawal, as does anyone who takes medication for a long period of time. It doesn't mean she was ADDICTED. Withdrawal sucks, and you have it in either case-- but you are only addicted if you crave the substance. You can deal with withdrawal by yourself if you are just physically dependent. That's why she went to a spa- to make herself as comfortable as possible while her body went through the changes. If she were *addicted* she'd go to a rehab facitlity because a spa wouldn't be able to suffice in that case. People need to understand the difference between physical dependence and addiction. You can be dependent on allergy medication if you take it long enough at a high dose, which puts your body in shock if you just stop randomly and abruptly. It does NOT mean you have an addiction problem.
