Rihanna Honors Friend of Sick Fan
Taking a break from all the hoopla surrounding her ex-boyfriend and alleged abuser Chris Brown's trial, Rihanna chose to focus on the good deeds going on in the world on Thursday night, Us Magazine reports.
The "Disturbia" singer attended the DKMS Gala in New York, where she honored six-year-old Isabelle Huurman for her efforts to find a bone marrow transplant for her best friend, leukemia patient Jasmina Anema.
"I am so honored to be here to present the 'Links of Love' award to Isabelle for all she has done for her best friend," told the audience, which included Kylie Minogue and Office star Amy Ryan. "Thank you, Isabelle. Isabelle has spent time with Jasmina, and you're right—she is awesome and absolutely worth fighting for. I also have to say she is lucky to have you."
Last month, Rihanna visited Anema in her hospital room, where the two talked, played, and danced to Rihanna's hits. Rihanna was drawn to Anema's case after seeing a video that Huurman and Anema's mother, Karen Detrick, made, pleading for donors for Anema.
DKMS, which held the event, is an organization dedicated to finding bone marrow donors for leukemia patients.
