Ed Westwick Is Reaching New ‘Heights’
Ed Westick’s next role will take him a long way from modern-day New York.
Variety reports that the guy who plays Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl has signed on to play the male lead in a big-screen version of the oft-adapted 1847 Emily Bronte novel Wuthering Heights.
Gemma Arterton—perhaps best known as Strawberry Fields from the last Bond flick Quantum of Solace, will co-star with Westwick. Initially, Natalie Portman was tapped to play the female lead, but was replaced by Abbie Cornish due to scheduling conflicts. Arterton was chosen to replace Cornish when producers decided to go with younger leads.
The film will be directed by Peter Webber (Hannibal Rising).
Set in a Yorkshire manor on the moors, Wuthering Heights details an all-consuming but thwarted love between Heathcliff (Westwick) and Catherine Earnshaw (Arterton), and described how their unresolved feelings for each other ultimately lead to the destruction of themselves and many around them.
Which is all well and good, but the real question is, how will the ever-fashionable Westwick look in period costume?
