Robert Pattinson and James Franco Face Off for Jeff Buckley Biopic Role
Hold onto your hats, people; it’s an old-fashioned Hollywood casting showdown!
BlackBook reports that Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson and Milk hunk James Franco are both in contention for the lead role in an upcoming biopic about the tragic life of singer Jeff Buckley.
Buckley, the son of musician Tim Buckley—who died at the age of 28 from a drug and alcohol overdose—passed away from an apparent accidental drowning in May 1997. He was just 30.
Time will tell who will eventually land the role. On one hand, RPattz has already proven that he has the singing chops. On the other hand, Franco seems to be on a biopic roll, what with the award-winning Milk and his upcoming turn as beat poet Allen Ginsberg.

Someone asked him about it at the New Yorker Festival a month ago – he said that Jeff’s mom hadn’t returned his call. Don’t think this is going to happen.

I definately feel James Franco is perfect for the role..and I know RobPatt is passionate about his singing, so it would probably mean more to him to get it, but there will be other dead singers roles soon. Maybe he could play Michael jackson..all jokes aside.
No NO NO!!! Robert Pattinson can NOT play this role. it is wrong on so many levels. i cant believe what i am even reading! i dont want tenny boppers thrashing jeffs music because some downs syndrome actor they like got this roll. *shudder*
I think neither, pattinson cant act just a heart throb who has no brain it seems, and franco again nothing there. It needs to be a no name so people dont associatte anything with them. Almost like Jeff himself. No one knew who he was really, he was known in the music circles but not outside

Robert will pull the crowds and make the film more money. That’s how they make their decisions.

Robert definately, and I DO NOt like Twilight, but Robert is an amazing musician/singer/songwriter. That is why I am a fan…James would be my second choice, but I think when things actually got underway, Robert would be the perfect age and James maybe too old…Besides Robert’s music idol has been Jeff for along time, so he has alot of passion where Jeff is concerned. It would not just be a part for him, but a way to show his emense appreciation for Jeff…He has been playing Jeff’s bluesy music (privately and in pubs) for years…The role would be a blessing to him…I do not like those who base Robert on Twilight alone…Every actor has started somewhere…and I adore James…They are the only two actors I appriciate in “Hollywood”(Rob has done other amazing stuff “Remeber Me”, How To Be, ect…”), because they are so unhollywood, talented, geniune, sweet, funny, charming, no ego’s at all, just real people…I wish Rob and James the best, they would make great friends btw…If they are not already…But Robert definately…He is talking on very smart roles up and coming, and would like to get as far away from Edward as possible, though he appreciates where Tilight has gotten him. He too wants to prove he is so much more than Twilight, and I for one know he is…carolyn
james franco !!!! seriously l was looking at the grace album cover the other day before even hearing about a biopic or james being considered i was like wow he really looks like james franco if they make a biopic he should play him….. so i freaked out when i heard this … i mean come on james looks like him HE CAN SING check it out on youtube and he is a amazing actor he is perfect …… rob just wouldnt do jeff justice !!!!!!! i will be highly upset if anyone but james gets this role!!!
