Now that pretty much everyone else in the world has tossed in their two cents on the Will.i.am/Perez Hilton dust-up at Sunday's Much Music Video Awards, Will.i.am is finally speaking up about the incident himself,

All Headline News reports that the Black Eyed Peas frontman—whose manager, Polo Molina, allegedly punched Hilton after the gossip maven hurled homophobic slurs at Will.i.am—has issued a lengthy statement on the incident, which is presented below for your scrutiny.

"I will not continue to comment specifically on the incident that happened in Toronto last weekend... But I would hate for my silence to be misconstrued... I do not condone harassment or violence of any kind..."

"No one deserves physical abuse... And no one deserves verbal abuse... No one deserves that..."

"Everyone needs to be respected... And no one's name should be slandered in the name of hate and disrespect... And fyi... 'not every black man is a thug...'"

"As far as character allegations made against myself, the members of the Black Eyed Peas, and members of our management... I believe that the truth will speak for itself once the details of the events are fully presented."

"Hateful slurs... Racial or gay should not be used as verbal weapons to provoke violence..."

"Let us all learn from the events that happened in Toronto... That situation has already taken valuable time, energy, and attention away from more important, and in some cases, devastating issues happening in our world..."

"Thank you..."

Sounds like he's ready to put the whole incident behind him as quickly as possible.

"freedom of speech" is irrelevant. Freedom of speech is freedom from state censorship, not freedom to verbally assault people. If you talk sh*t, you should expect at least the possibility you'll get punched out. And you'll deserve it. Perez' insults were homophobic and abusive, they were clearly fighting words and he got what he asked for. He gets no respect for crying about it after. If he wasn't so narcissistic and self pitying he might learn a lesson, one I learned in the school playground as a kid. I agree with you 100%
