No doubt about it, movies based on video games are the hot thing right now, so it shouldn’t be surprising that the massively popular World of Warcraft should be tapped for a big-screen adaptation.

Variety reports that Spider-Man director Sam Raimi has been tapped to helm a movie adaptation of World of Warcraft, which depicts an epic struggle between the Horde and the Alliance. Dark Knight producer Charles Roven will also be involved in the project, which will be co-financed by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

In a statement, Raimi seemed eager to tackle the project, which he will shoot after he wraps up Spider-Man 4 next year.

“At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story,” Raimi noted.
