Beyonce and Lady GaGa Face Off for the VMAs

Get ready for an old-fashioned songbird showdown!

Lady GaGa and Beyonce Knowles both lead the pack in nominations for this year’s Video Music Awards, each garnering a staggering nine nods. In addition, the “Poker Face” chanteuse and the “Single Ladies” warbler are directly facing off against each other in the Video of the Year and Best Female Video categories.

Following hot on GaGa and Beyonce’s heels is Britney Spears, who racked up seven nominations, including for her “Womanizer” and “Circus” videos. Also among the nominees are Jay-Z, Green Day, Eminem, Kanye West and Coldplay. (For a full list of nominees, visit the VMAs Web site.)

As with last year’s event, mussy-coiffed British funnyman Russell Brand will be hosting. No word on what kind of cheap digs he’ll take at the Jonas Brothers this time around.

The 2009 Video Music Awards will take place on September 13.

In the meantime, sound off in the comments section: Who do you think will win more moon-man trophies, Beyonce or GaGa?
