Paula Abdul Will Be Replaced
Though it would seem that Paula Abdul is one of a kind, the powers behind American Idol hope that they can replace her anyway.
Us Magazine reports that Fox network chariman Peter Rice has announced that the show is looking for someone new to take the place of Abdul, who announced earlier this week that she wouldn’t be returning to the popular singing competition.
“There is going to be a search,” Rice told the Television Critics Association. “There is going to be a change and that change we have to look at that as being a positive change. It wasn’t a decision we made, but we have to look at it in a positive way.”
For the time being, the show will rely on guest judges doing one-off appearances to fill the void left by Abdul. So far, Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry have signed on to critique aspiring singing sensations, but don’t look for them to permanently fill Abdul’s shoes.
“We’ll have these guest judges do one week each during the audition [period]…there is no thought right now that any of these judges will be long term judge for us,” Rice says. “All of the people we are talking to have successful careers. I don’t even think they’d be available to judge full-time. We have now until January to introduce a new energy to the panel.”
