Rob Zombie Will Grapple With the Blob

Having breathed new life into the Michael Myers saga, Halloween director Rob Zombie is planning to revive another horror classic.

Variety reports that Zombie is tackling a remake of 1958's The Blob, about a mysterious, constantly-growing mass that absorbs everyone it comes in contact with. Production of the film—which Zombie will write, produce and direct—is expected to begin next spring, with major tinkering in store.

"My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing—that's the first thing I want to change," says Zombie. "That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now."

Adds the director, "I'd been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space. I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to."

Check out the trailer for the original Blob, starring Steve McQueen, below:

Let us know in the comments section: Do you think a remake of The Blob is the best idea ever, or the worst?

[quote=Mike D]" I feel it's the worst thing any filmmaker can do. I actually got a call from my agent and they asked me if I wanted to be involved with the remake of Chain Saw. I said no f***ing way! Those movies are perfect - you're only going to make yourself look like an a**hole by remaking them. Go remake something that's a piece of s**t and make it good. Like with my movie (House of 1000 Corpses) I have elements of Chain Saw in it because I love that movie so much, but I wouldn't dare want to "remake" it. It's like a band trying to be another band. You can sound like The Beatles, but you can't be The Beatles."That's Rob Zombie from a few years ago. Way to stay away from remakes, douchebag. change of heart and hell i dont care what he said, he makes kick ass movies, i agree with kim
