Writer Named for Sam Raimi’s World of Warcraft Movie
Sam Raimi’s upcoming movie based on World of Warcraft has taken a significant step forward.
The Spider-Man director tells MTV that Saving Private Ryan screenwriter Robert Rodat will be handling the script for the movie.
Raimi adds that, contrary to previous rumors, the movie will be an original work based on the role-playing game’s universe, and not an adaptation of the book Arthas: Rise of the Lich King.
The director explains,
“We would choose…something that encompasses lands and characters and storylines, and we would be true to it. But our story may or may not be about one of those central characters…We want to be really faithful to the game. We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a ‘World of WarCraft’ adventure. Only obviously it’s very different ’cause it’s expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture.”
Sounds like they have their work cut out for them.
