New Moon Director Chris Weitz to Quit the Movie Biz?

Bad news, Twi-hards; it seems that director Chris Weitz—who helmed the Twilight sequel New Moon (you may have heard a little something about it)—is planning to abandon his movie career.

In an interview with MovieMaker, Weitz recalls his frustration with studio maneuverings on his 2007 film The Golden Compass and reveals that his next directorial project will probably be his last.

Says Weitz,

“Every time I make a movie I’m pretty much convinced it’s the last time I’m going to be able to do it and that really it’s a rather silly occupation to undertake. But I think I have maybe one more film in me.”

And no, that last movie won’t be the final Twilight installment Breaking Dawn. Weitz says that his likely swan song will be a tribute to the Italian classic The Bicycle Thief, to be entitled The Gardener:

“I feel that if I were to do this one film, I’d feel okay just sitting back and reading. I’d really like to read some books.”

If you’re looking to catch up on your reading, we can recommend a really good series of vampire books to put on your list, Chris…
