Jay Leno Takes it on the Chin From Jimmy Kimmel Again (VIDEO)
Apparently, Jay Leno plans to do penance for swiping the Tonight Show hosting spot from Conan O'Brien by letting Jimmy Kimmel pummel him repeatedly on national television. During his interview with Oprah Winfrey on Thursday, Leno spun like a tornado about the late-night television drama that has a nation of insomniacs ready to turn their torches and pitchforks on him. During the damage-control session, Leno attempted to grab a little sympathy by claiming that he had been "sucker-punched" by Kimmel when he appeared on Leno's "10@10" segment. (Check out Kimmel's verbal evisceration of Leno on Jay's own show here.) Temporarily setting aside the hanky, Leno lamented to Winfrey:
"Yeah, I got sucker-punched. It's my show; I could have edited it, but I said, 'No, no, put it out there.' You know when you get sucker-punched, you just get right back up again."
Obviously, this couldn't go unanswered by Kimmel, who used his monologue on Thursday to apologize for playing rough with Jay. Just kidding, he mercilessly mocked Leno for not addressing the Conan O'Brien issue head-on and being unable to think on his feet:
"If I made any mistake, the mistake I made was thinking Jay would have anything other to say than what was written on the cue cards. I figured he'd get into it and mix it up. You know, at one time he was a comedian. But he just stood there, kind of reading through the questions like a robot and then goes off and rats me out to Oprah."
We're going to have to award Round Two to Kimmel as well. And pray that Leno manages to grow a third foot so he can shove that one in his mouth too.
