Designer Alexander McQueen Found Dead; Suicide Suspected
British fashion designer Alexander McQueen (born Lee McQueen) was found dead in his London home on Thursday morning, People magazine reports. According to a statement released by McQueen's company,
"Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family...Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this."
A report issued by Scotland Yard reads, "Police were called by London Ambulance Service at approximately 10:20 a.m. [Thursday] regarding a man found dead...The deceased is believed to be 40 years old and from London. Next of kin have been informed but formal identification is awaited. A postmortem examination will be arranged in due course. The death is being treated as non-suspicious at this time."
Though an examination is still pending, Britain's Daily Mail claims that the designer hanged himself in his apartment. McQueen's mother, Joyce McQueen, had passed away just days earlier.
McQueen's Fall 2010 collection for McQ was scheduled to be presented today at New York's Fashion Week today, though he was not expected to be in attendance. The designer was, however, scheduled to present his collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 9.
