John Mayer Was Just Trying to Be Clever When He Used the N-Word (VIDEO)
Hey, you know how John Mayer infuriated the entire world yesterday by dropping an N-bomb in his Playboy interview? Yeah, well, you all should cut him a break, because as it turns out he only threw out the racial slur because he felt under pressure to be witty. Yeah, really.
The Battle Studies singer took a brief break during his concert at Sommet Center in Nashville on Wednesday to explain to the audience,
"In the quest to be clever, I completely forgot about the people that I love and that love me."
As Mayer sees it, he had entered a world of "selfishness and greediness and arrogance" and figured that if he could be "speedy and witty and pull together as many fast words and phrases as I could, that I would be clever enough to buy myself another day without anybody pinning me down and saying, 'You're a creep.'"
Which, naturally, led him to casually toss out the N-word during a high-profile interview. Duh!
But don't worry, he's going to stop trying to display his cleverness by spewing hateful, racially insensitive words from now on:
"It's just not worth being clever. I quit the media game. I'm out. I'm done. I just want to play my guitar."
