Miley Cyrus Is, Like, So Over The Internet
While Miley Cyrus may have been a former Twitter-addict, the pop star is now taking a page from your mom's handbook and is speaking out about the evils of the internet. In an interview, Cyrus says that she quit Twitter because it was keeping her from enjoying her real life:
So I was that person who was like, ‘I’m so sad. I have no real, normal life, everyone knows what I’m doing.’ And I’m like, well that’s my own fault because I’m telling everyone [...] I’d tweet, ‘I’m here,’ and I’d wonder why a thousand fans are outside the restaurant. Well, hello, I just told them. So I’m just, like, kind of thinking doesn’t really make a lot of sense. Everything I’m saying is not really going with what I’m putting on the internet.
Quitting Twitter and restraining her overshare-y tendencies have improved Cyrus' life, made her a "bit more social" and improved her circle of "real friends as opposed to friends who are on the internet." Wait, is she saying that our Malaysian boyfriend we met on Facebook and have never met IRL isn't our "real" friend?
Oh, but Cyrus isn't just cutting back on her own social network-addiction, she is coming after your overshares too! Cyrus says she thinks getting wrapped up in the internet is "lame" and that kids should just, like, enjoy life, man. Cyrus complains about people not enjoying "the moment [they're] in" and instead are focused on taking photos to post on Facebook. She's just like Susan Sontag!
Cyrus ends the interview with advice for the kids: "don't go on the internet, it's dangerous, it's not fun, it wastes your life and you should be outside playing sports or something." You heard her, kids: stop wasting your time downloading Cyrus' music from iTunes, visiting her website, joining her online fan clubs, watching her videos on YouTube, live-chatting with Cyrus on MySpace about her latest film and purchasing Miley gear from online retailers. Go outside and play sports or something.
