Kindergarten Teacher Says Tiger Woods Lied About Childhood Racist Attack

Did troubled golfer Tiger Woods lie about racist attacks during his childhood? Tiger once spoke about a racist attack he suffered as a child in The Wicked Game a golf book written by Howard Sounes. In the book Tiger said he was bullied in kindergarten by other schoolchildren because of his race. From The Wicked Game:

I became aware of my racial identity on my first day of school, on my first day of kindergarten. A group of sixth graders tied me to a tree, spray-painted the word ‘nigger’ on me, and threw rocks at me. That was my first day of school. And the teacher really didn’t do much of anything.

Now, however, Tiger’s former kindergarten teacher, Maureen Decker, is saying that the Tiger lied about the attack and, if it did happen, she was never made aware of it.

Through her attorney, Gloria Allred, Decker released a statement on Tiger’s accustaions:

Ms. Decker believes that no such incident ever occurred to Tiger Woods while he was under her care as a kindergarten pupil on the first day of class.

Further, neither Tiger nor his parents nor anyone even reported the alleged racial incident to her or the administration. Therefore Ms. Decker contends that the statement that ‘…and the teacher really didn’t do much of anything’ is completely untrue, since such an incident never occurred and was never reported to her by anyone while Tiger was a student at the school.

The Wicked Game was written in 2005, but Decker says she was just made aware of Tiger’s story recently. She also called for Tiger to make amends with her over his alleged lie.

In Tiger’s defense, he could have simply gotten the dates when he was bullied wrong, or perhaps was referring to a different teacher in the school who wasn’t Decker. He could have been too embarassed by the attack to have come forward and tell his parents or teachers at the time. However, considering that Tiger’s reputation for being a good guy has been thrown aside over the past few months, who knows what to believe.

Is there anything else Tiger could do to ruin his public image? It seems like he has really mastered this career-ruining thing. Even Lindsay Lohan would be amazed at how much he is messing up his life.
