Vanessa Hudgens Takes HIV-Positive Junkie Stripper Role in 'Rent'
Vanessa Hudgens is ready to give the world another song-and-dance routine. But this one is going to run a little darker and deeper than the typical Disney joint.
The High School Musical sweetheart has signed on for a production of the Tony Award-winning musical Rent, which will run August 6-8 at the legendary Hollywood Bowl and will be directed by How I Met Your Mother star/awards-show standby Neil Patrick Harris.
In a bold new career turn, Hudgie Bear will play HIV-positive, drug-addicted S&M dancer Mimi Marquez.
While it remains to be seen how Hudgens will fare in the role, Harris gushed over her talents in a statement, noting,
"She came in for a work session, and I must say, Vanessa really impressed. She looks amazing, has great vocal chops and seems really committed to honoring the somewhat iconic role of Mimi. I look forward to audiences seeing a dark, edgy and very different side of Vanessa Hudgens this August."

I know people like to venture in different roles but I think sometimes choosing the wrong ones can affect the image portrayed by actors and actresses and could put a very negative image out there. There are other roles that can benefit a better portrayal of character and acting abilities. Sometimes going totally opposite can have a negative outcome.

ummmmmmm i totally and definitely, dont think she could pull off mimi. To start off, vanessa's voice is soooooooo not like mimi's. And i just dont think she'll make a goood mimi. Why dont they just use rosario dawson like in the 2005 movie? rosario is the awesomest mimi i've ever seen.

i agree, there are better singers out there. i don't get why they choose her. she can't even act. Actually, the industry doesn't think this way. She has many roles and scripts under her belt so it doesn't matter what commenters like you think of her. She keeps going on with her career. Sure, she has to train herself more but I'm confident she will stay in the industry for 20-30 years.
