It's that time of year, every fashion addict's Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day and Easter all rolled into one. Yes, last night celebrities crowded the red carpet for the 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala wearing the finest duds they could get their hands on, each one hoping to be awarded Celebuzz's coveted FTW award, obvi. The dress is pretty but the hair is not. It is indeed old Latin fashion but for an old Latin hairstyle they didn't need to part her hair in the middle..

I know this is the kind of dress people hate or love. I LOVE it. The watercolor print is so beautiful. The artistry of producing that fabric blows my mind. I love the contrast of the elegance of "Grecian Goddess" draping with the avant-garde nature of the unfinished edges. Has there ever been a dress that so highlighted the beauty of the shape of woman? This dress is art and it is a triumph. I agree

This is amazing! I keep having to come back to look at it again. This is likely the only venue it would be appropriate for but it works! The draping on the back is so beautifully done. That train is wearable art. Zoom in and look at the silk and try to just imagine the process in dying it those colors. Oh! It is gorgeous.
I adore the bottom of this dress. I love the color. Like rverg though, I cannot get over the bust. It is like "insert Boob A here. Insert Boob B here. Now put a Bow on top so everyone's eyes must be drawn to observe exactly the size and position of your bosoms". Not flattering.
I didn't like this at first, but later pics show more detail. There is an interesting black detail interwoven at the top. There is also a gorgeous brooch on the right side. I hated the hair at first also. Then I started thinking about Spanish art I have seen and realized that is a common Latin hairstyle from earlier centuries and this is a Costume gala event. So artistically, I give Alba (and perhaps a stylist?) Kudos for that.
I think the petticoat is meant to be exaggerated sort of in the way that Tim Burton movies are more stylized than say Spielberg's. I love the statement the dress is making. The "girlish" style of dress with the floral fabric and turtleneck combined with the see-through aspect of the fabric and the peek-a-boo bra is just brilliant. The shoes just cap it off. The pics later on show the back is just beautifully sexy also.
This dress reminds me a lot of the dresses my Mom and her friends wore in the 70's, which is neat at a Costume Institute gala. The dress really makes SJP's waist seems tiny and gives her a nice bustline. The nude color is very flattering for her skintone.
I didn't like this dress at first but it has really grown on me. The architecture is beautiful. The slit is brave but is beautifully executed...in none of the pictures later is there a compromising shot. This is a memorable dress!
Love this on Maggie. It has the feel of a costume from a period drama yet stunningly modern and brought into 2010.
When you zoom in the beading and ribbon work on the top is exquisite. The soft contrast of the black and whites in the tulle is so whimsical. The overall effect reminds me very much of Paris. A very unusual dress but so darling!
