Gabourey Sidibe Accused Of Being A Big Ol’ Diva

First it was Lea Michele, now it’s Gabourey Sidibe. Looks like today might officially be Diva Day.

The Precious star is being accused by Washington Post journalist Jonathan Capehart of catching the diva bug.

Jonathan alleges that Gabby was rude to him and other media folk during the White House Correspondent’s dinner last weekend. From the Washington Post:

I was thrilled to spot [Gabby] at a table laughing uproariously with the man sitting to her right. “I know you’re having a good time and I’m sorry to interrupt,” I began. My next sentence didn’t come out because Sidibe shouted over the din, “Yeah, come back in five minutes!” Thinking she was joking, I laughed and pretended to walk away. When I noticed that the look in her eyes meant she was serious, I walked back to her and said, “I just wanted to congratulate you on your nomination. I thought your performance was spectacular. I even wrote a column about it.” After wishing her good luck, I rejoined my friends.

Capehart goes on to relate negative experiences that his other friends (including WaPo writer Jo-Ann Armao and the partner of a Countdown with Kieth Olbermann producer) had with Gabby and his disappointment with the young actress.

Capehart’s description of his run-in with Gabby is in stark contrast with Gabby’s bubbly and warm public persona.

On the one hand, Gabby probably felt annoyed by being interrupted by strangers–even if these strangers felt entitled to a warm reception–but on the other hand, Gabby could have done a better job to hide her annoyance.

So: is Gabby really a diva? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
