‘Iron Man 2′ Translates Into Box-Office Gold

Iron Man may have had his hands full with Whiplash, but he had no trouble bringing moviegoers into the theater over the weekend.

Iron Man 2 dominated the box office over the weekend, pulling in $133.6 million in its first three days of release, making it the fifth-biggest movie opening of all time and far surpassing its 2008 predecessor, which pulled in a mere $98.6 million on its opening weekend.

Not too shabby at all, but the film did fall short of other superhero fare, such as Dark Knight (which grabbed $158.4 million on its opening weekend) and Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million). Still not bad, considering, you know, the country is currently in the grips of economic turmoil and everything.
