You have to admire Bret Michaels' dedication, even if his judgment might be a little questionable.

The Poison vocalist, who lately has been racking up more trips to the hospital than Amy Winehouse—threw caution to the wind on Wednesday night to bust out a surprise performance of the Poison chestnut "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" on American Idol's season finale with finalist Casey James.

And while a man in his current condition really should consult his physician before subjecting himself to the rigors of live performance, the 47-year-old Rock of Love star admitted before taking the stage that he hadn't bothered with such formalities:

"The doctors, I didn't tell them I was going to do this. I never told them I was coming here. They're going to find out in a few minutes!"
