‘Golden Girl’ Rue McClanahan Dies At 76
Former Golden Girls actress Rue McClanahan has died. She was 76.
According to her manager, Barbara Lawrence, Rue passed away at 1 a.m. this morning after suffering from her second stroke.
Rue is perhaps best known for her role as Blanceh Deveraux in the hit series, Golden Girls. Blanche was a proto-Samantha Jones, whose appetite for men was often a source of amusement on the show. She was o the show since it first ran in 1985 until it was canceled in 1992. She reprised her role as Blanche in the short-lived Golden Girls spin-off The Golden Palace in 1993.
With Rue’s death, the death of Bea Arthur last year, and Estelle Getty’s passing in 2008, Betty White is left as the only surviving Golden Girl star.
Rue is survived by her sixth husband, actor Morrow Wilson, and her son from her first marriage.
She will be missed.
