Lindsay Lohan’s SCRAM Bracelet Is Reportedly Already Going Off

Well, that didn’t take long. Or, given that we’re talking about Lindsay Lohan here, maybe it took longer than we all should have expected.

LiLo’s alcohol-detecting SCRAM ankle bracelet—which she’s currently wearing as a court-ordered condition of her probation for a DUI charge—was reportedly set off while the actress was attending an after-party for the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday.

Generally, SCRAM devices are only triggered when alcohol is detected in the wearer’s perspiration, or when the device has been tampered with. If it’s determined that either of the two above scenarios occurred, Lohan could face jail time for violating the conditions of her bail. (The actress was fitted with the device last month, after she bailed on a mandatory progress report in favor of living it up at the Cannes Film Festival.)

Though it’s possible that the device may have been triggered by, say a spilled drink, forensics expert Mike Hlastala says that the final SCRAM report would indicate if this was the case:

“Just because a SCRAM is triggered doesn’t necessarily mean the wearer was drinking alcohol. Alcohol accidentally spilled on the SCRAM could trigger it, but the device will know that it didn’t come from the wearer’s bloodstream. If the wearer tries to remove the device, that would cause an alarm as well.”

The actress herself offered an alternate explanation on Monday, noting on her Twitter account,

“Haha! Last night-My friend Johnny put a light up bracelet on my boots and someone asked me if my SCRAM was lighting up RED….”

She also claims,

“My scram wasn’t set off-Its physically impossible considering I’ve nothing for it to go off-All of these false resports [sic] are absolutely wrong.”

Lohan’s protestations of innocence, however, haven’t prevented the judge in her case from calling an emergency meeting over the matter, which is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m.
