‘Breaking Dawn’ Might Not Have a Birth Scene
It’s one of the most memorable—and quite possibly the most graphic—passages from the Twilight saga. But if screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has her way, the birth scene in Breaking Dawn might not make it to the big screen at all.
Rosenberg admits that she’s currently weighing the possibility of leaving Renesmee’s birth out of the upcoming screen adaptation of Breaking Dawn, figuring that some things might best be left to the imagination:
“On the fan site, on Facebook, all the comments are, ‘It has to be R-rated! You have to show the childbirth! Gore and guts and sex!’ For me it’s actually more interesting to not see it. You know, you can do childbirth without seeing childbirth… It doesn’t mean it’s any less evocative of an experience.”
Ultimately, however, Rosenberg will leave the decision to director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls), who’ll be helming the two-part Breaking Dawn:
“From a screenwriter standpoint that’s gonna land more squarely in the director’s hands. That’s one of those things [where] I kind of say [and] make a few sort of general suggestions on the page and say, ‘Go! Go, Bill! Do it!’ ”
While we await Condon’s decision, feel free to offer your own opinion in the comments section: Would Breaking Dawn be better or worse without the birth scene?

Whatever you do don’t take out the birth scene it would totally ruin everything! thats like the best part of the whole book…! It should detailed but it doesnt have to be R rated just leave the rating alone and make it work for all the fans who are under seventeen! i mean imagine how many customers and people you may loose if you was to change the rating! i mean just go as far as you can with the child birth under a PG-13 rating just don’t take it out It probably cant be as good as all twilight fans imagine but do your best and leave the book the way its suppose to BE!!
i HATE the twilight movies, but the books are ok… i think that that scene should definitely be in there…
hey you people, WAKE UP!!!! can you even imagine how disappointed would we be if you cut the birth scene? is one of the most important and axciting scene, the one that we most look forward to!! ok you can can the sex scenes but not the birth!!! if you do so, you’ll let all the fans down!!!! for sure!
BD was broken into 2 films so that less things had to be left out.
Thar’s not true. BD was broken into two films so Summit can milk the franchise more. Don’t be naive.
In my country, the whole series come with an R-rating (only people over 16 can read it) so it’s definitely not a kids’ story. The director and the screenwriter will soften it, however, so everyone who is swooning over the Rob Pattison – Kris Stewart love or Taylor Lautner’s abs can buy tickets and watch the movie. Wake up: this film-adaptation is not about doing justice to the story – it’s about making money! I so wish Twi hadn’t been such a huge success. Maybe then directors would consider making a better movie.
But I agree, we don’t need to see blood to believe that Bella has been changed to a vampire. Since the whole movie is not from her point of view, the films fail to be dramatic or even interesting. Because of the fact that the narration tells everything to the audience, what’s the point of thinking?
All in all, they should do a scene like in Twi when James bit Bella. No melodrama, just facts: she’s dying, Edward bites her, Jacob is crying or screaming, some creepy music and camera shots will do it, and after a cut we can see the new Bella waking up and Renesme sleeping in Edward’s hands. No big deal.
Rosenberg is not a good writer. The script for Eclipse was the worst yet. Birth scene or no, she is not adapting these stories well. The latest film was cheesy crap – all of the intimate intensity that should exist between Bella and Edward was absent. The director is to blame as well. The Volturi were not menacing. They were B-Movie amusements behaving like badly dressed, arrogant goth teens. Cheesy, cheesy. All in all, a very wooden film Hope the next one is more lively – though doubtful with Rosenberg’s lackluster writing.
Melissa Rosenberg has ruin every movie so far, why break a pattern. Breakin Dawn will be as boring as the other 3 movies.
No honeymoon, and no baby scene..Fade to black, next morning…blah, blah, blah
Type your comment hhe-ll who the hell do you think your are taking somthing out off the book and not putting it in the movie!its like the most important part!not really.but you would make the worsst mistake every and make people want to puch you in the face when they see you( mad at you).look, fans have waited forever for the movies, and i know alot of other people have been waiting for them to.look because off all of the fans (almost all of them are 14 and up!!,about 98 percent .areover 15 )we know about baby birth we are not stupid.we have had health!!why the fuge monkey would u wanna take that part out!>?>?ok i get dont show like any like body parts that would be disgusting,u have to just make bella look like she in pain make her push ,baby pop out ,bang your done!!!!(i know theres a little more to it)just do the dam sceen its the last one it has to at least have that sceen in it.ere.
If they do not have the birth scene, this woman is a dumb f*ck. it’s the part where she f*cking turns into a vampire!!!!!! wowwww, you’re dumb lady. HAVE THE SCENE!!!!!!! The real fans know what happens so they’ll be expecting it!!!! DUH!
DO NOT get rid of the sex scene its a passionate and its the first time bella and edward get intimate why cut it out or even tone down the scene a bit? And the birth scene is not just a gory matter of pushing out a vampire its a life and death situation from Twilight Breaking dawn! Its an essential part of the book and makes it more interesting so why put it in the book and cut it out of the film (boringggg) you NEED to keep everything original and cut nothing out. Even if its rated a PG 13 the parents should understand that little children under 13 don’t always have to be in the middle and watch Twilight, there are WAY more adults and children 13 and over who watch Twilight and want to see breaking dawn with NOTHING cut out more then little kids. Parents with children under 13 will just have to suck it and so will the little children. Who said The Twilights were for little children in the first place? with the setting and all its most likely little children don’t understand the plot and wont even understand breaking dawn part 1 and 2. The whole concept of this love ride between bella and edward should have a glorious ending and in which to do this the birth and sex scene should be kept in or there was no point of the book if the movie is going to cut out the main part of the film!! i absolutely LOVE twilight and to have the final twilights tamed because of little children then whats the point!! KEEP IT ALL AS IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE FIRST PLACE AND CUT NOTHING OUT!!
